StoreFAQ alternatives: other ways to add product FAQs on Shopify

Last updated:

The alternatives to StoreFAQ differ in two things: where shoppers see the answers (on the product page, on an FAQ page, in product Q&A, in a chat or in a popup), and who writes them. Here are six other apps, each described from its own Shopify App Store listing checked on 26 October 2026, the free way with your theme, and BOOX, which is our app.

In short
  • StoreFAQ alternatives differ in where shoppers see the answers, and in who writes them: you, AI, or you answering shoppers.
  • StoreFAQ offers an FAQ page, product FAQs and a chat in one app. Its listing says it is free up to 100 FAQ page views, and paid from $7.99 a month.
  • PreviewFly and Querio are free, according to their listings. HelpLab, AskWell, AC Questions & Answers and Askful have limited free plans.
  • For a simple FAQ you may not need an app: a collapsible block in your theme, with a metafield for each product.
  • Google stopped showing FAQ rich results on May 7, 2026, so FAQ schema is no reason to pick an app.

What are the alternatives to StoreFAQ?

The alternatives to StoreFAQ differ in two things: where shoppers see the answers, and who writes them. There are five places for answers: an FAQ on the product page, an FAQ page for the whole store, product Q&A from shoppers, a chat, and a popup that shows when the shopper hesitates. And there are three writers: you, AI, or you answering questions that shoppers send.

StoreFAQ offers several of these in one app. If you need only one, an app that does only that one may be enough. And for a simple FAQ on the product page, you may not need an app at all.

What does StoreFAQ do, according to its listing?

According to its Shopify App Store listing, StoreFAQ: Product FAQ Chatbot builds an FAQ page, product FAQs and an AI chatbot, with live chat and instant answers. This is how the listing described it on 26 October 2026:

  • Writing: you write FAQs with AI and arrange them in a drag-and-drop builder. FAQs can be imported and exported.
  • Managing from a chat: you can manage FAQs by chatting with Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, through MCP.
  • Schema: the listing names FAQ schema (JSON-LD) for search engines.
  • Languages: the listing names 23, Hebrew among them. The paid plans add multilingual FAQs.
  • Price: free up to 100 FAQ page views, with 25 AI chatbot conversations in total. Paid: $7.99, $14.99 or $49.99 a month, by the number of views, conversations and products the AI is trained on. Views and conversations beyond the plan are billed by use.

You may want something else if you need only an FAQ on the product page, with no chat. Or if you prefer a price that doesn't depend on views, want shoppers to ask their own questions, or want the answer to reach the shopper without searching for it.

Which other apps add product FAQs on Shopify?

We checked six other apps on the Shopify App Store: HelpLab, PreviewFly, AskWell, AC Questions & Answers, Querio and Askful, and added BOOX, which is ours. Every fact about another app comes from that app's own listing.

Where do the answers show, and what is the difference?

Where the answer sits decides who sees it. Each place has a strength and a cost:

  • An FAQ on the product page: PreviewFly, AskWell, StoreFAQ, Askful, and HelpLab in its Professional plan. The answers stay on the page, with room for many questions. But the shopper has to scroll down to them and open them.
  • An FAQ page for the whole store: StoreFAQ, HelpLab, AskWell, AC Questions & Answers and Askful list one on their listings. It suits questions about the whole store, like shipping, payment and returns. But it is far from the product and the buy button.
  • Product Q&A from shoppers: AC Questions & Answers and Querio. Shoppers ask, you answer, and the answer stays for the next shopper. But someone has to answer, and each new question waits for your reply.
  • A chat: StoreFAQ and Askful. The shopper can ask anything and get a reply at once. But they have to open the chat and type a question.
  • A popup at the moment of hesitation: BOOX. The questions come to the shopper, with no need to scroll or type. But the popup shows only three ready questions per product.

Can you add product FAQs on Shopify without an app?

Yes, if your theme has a collapsible block on the product page. Text you type straight into such a block shows on every product page. To give each product its own questions, you connect a product metafield to the block. This is how, according to Shopify's Help Center:

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings, then Metafields, then Products, and add a definition of the type Multi-line text.
  2. On each product's page in the admin, fill in that metafield with the product's questions and answers.
  3. In the theme editor, on the product template, connect the metafield to the collapsible row's Row content setting as a dynamic source, and save.

This way costs nothing, but you write every question yourself, product by product. It suits a store with few products. An example of a question you could write this way, from an invented store:

Can the cover go in the washing machine?

Yes, on a gentle cycle at 30°C. Don't put it in the dryer.

What to write in the questions themselves, with more examples: product page FAQ.

Should you pick an FAQ app for its FAQ schema?

No, not to get FAQ rich results on Google. On May 8, 2026 Google wrote that the FAQ rich result would no longer appear in Google Search starting May 7, 2026. On June 15, 2026 it removed the documentation for it.

Four of the listings we checked (StoreFAQ, HelpLab, PreviewFly and AskWell) still name FAQ schema or Google rich snippets. Pick by what shoppers see on the page. Source: Google Search Central, Latest Google Search documentation updates, May 8 and June 15, 2026.

How do you choose a StoreFAQ alternative?

Start from what your shoppers do, not from the feature list. In order:

  1. Choose where the answer shows. Shoppers who scroll to the details will find an FAQ on the page. Shoppers who ask you the same thing again and again need the answer written down. And shoppers who leave without asking need the answer to come to them.
  2. Decide who writes. You, AI from your own data, or you answering shoppers' questions. If AI writes, check on the app's listing that you can read each answer before it goes live.
  3. Check what you pay for. Each app counts something different: StoreFAQ FAQ page views and conversations, HelpLab the number of FAQs, AskWell generations, AC Questions & Answers Q&A a month, Askful products and questions, and BOOX answers.
  4. Check the language. Of the seven listings we checked, only StoreFAQ's languages line names a language other than English: 23 languages, Hebrew among them. HelpLab, AC Questions & Answers and Askful mention multi-language support in their features or plans. None of this tells you for sure which language the answers will be written in, so check that on one product before you decide.
  5. Try it on one product before you turn it on for the whole store, and read every answer.

Where BOOX fits

BOOX fits when shoppers stall on a product page over the same few questions, and don't ask them. We make BOOX, so here is exactly what it does and what it doesn't.

  • What it does: BOOX writes three questions and answers for each product with AI, from the product page and the store's policies, and you can edit any of them. They show in a popup when the shopper hesitates, on the rule you choose: after time on the page, after a scroll, or after an add to cart with no checkout.
  • Every answer ends with an add-to-cart button that takes the shopper to the store's own buy button. Your data shows, per product and per question, how many saw the popup, how many answered, and how many bought after answering.
  • It opens by itself at most once per visit, and never blocks scrolling. Free for up to 50 answers a month. Premium, unlimited: $10 a month, with a 14-day free trial.

When it doesn't: BOOX is not an FAQ page, and not an FAQ section that stays on the page for anyone who scrolls. If you need one of those, or many questions per product, product Q&A from shoppers, or live chat with a person, StoreFAQ or one of the apps in the table will fit better. And you can combine them: an FAQ on the page, and BOOX at the moment of hesitation.
