AI FAQ apps for Shopify product pages: what they write from, who approves, and where shoppers see the answers

Last updated:

An AI FAQ app reads your product data and writes questions and answers for you. The apps differ in three ways that matter: what the AI writes from, whether you approve each answer before shoppers see it, and where the answers show. We make BOOX, one of the eight apps on this page. Every other app is described only from its own Shopify App Store listing, checked on 26 October 2026.

In short
  • AI FAQ apps differ in three things: what they write from, whether you approve answers before they go live, and where shoppers see them.
  • Most apps we checked write from product data. Bulk FAQ Generator's listing names shop policies as a source, and Askful's says it answers policy questions too.
  • PreviewFly's listing says you can edit any answer before it goes live, and Answer It can require review. Bulk FAQ Generator publishes automatically.
  • FAQ schema no longer earns FAQ lines on Google: the feature left Google Search on May 7, 2026.
  • Answers show in a section on the page, a Q&A box, a chat or a popup. We make BOOX, the popup.

What does an AI FAQ app for Shopify do?

An AI FAQ app saves you writing an FAQ for each product by hand: the AI writes questions and answers about the product, and the app shows them to shoppers. That way shoppers get answers to what people ask before they buy: size, materials, shipping and returns.

When you compare these apps, four questions matter more than the rest:

  1. What does it write from? Only the product description, or your shipping and returns policies too.
  2. Who approves? You read each answer before it goes live, or it goes live by itself.
  3. Where does the shopper see it? In an FAQ section on the page, a Q&A box, a chat or a popup.
  4. What do you pay for? A flat price, or by the number of generations, answers, views or products.

Which Shopify apps write product FAQs with AI?

We checked seven Shopify App Store apps that write product FAQs with AI: AskWell, Smart Faqs Builder, Bulk FAQ Generator, PreviewFly, Answer It, Askful and StoreFAQ, plus BOOX, which is ours. Every fact in the table comes from the app's own listing, in the listing's words where possible.

What does the AI write the answers from?

Mostly from product data. Only two of the seven other listings say the AI also uses the store's policies or pages. That matters, because the AI can answer well only from what it reads. An app that reads only the product description can answer size and materials, but won't know your shipping and returns policies unless they are in the description.

Smart Faqs Builder's listing names product descriptions, PreviewFly's the title, description, type and vendor, and AskWell's also prices, options, tags and metafields. Bulk FAQ Generator's listing names shop policies as a source, next to product data. Askful's says it trains on your products and store pages, and answers policy questions too. BOOX writes from the product page and the store's policies.

An example from an invented store: the product description says nothing about returns, and the policy allows returns within 30 days. An app that also reads the policy can write:

Can I return it if it doesn't fit?

Yes, you can return it within 30 days of receiving your order.

An app that reads only the description doesn't know this. It can skip the question, or guess. And a guess about returns is still your store's answer. On the risk, and how to keep answers to your own facts: when AI answers are wrong.

Can you check the answers before shoppers see them?

Some apps let you check each answer before it goes live, and in others answers go live by themselves. PreviewFly's listing says you can edit, reorder or remove any answer before it goes live. In Answer It you choose whether answers publish automatically, require review, or stay fully manual. In Bulk FAQ Generator answers publish automatically, and the listing says it publishes only what your data can back. The other listings don't say whether there is a review step. In BOOX you can edit any question and any answer.

A chat is a different case. It writes a new answer to each question as it is asked, so there is no answer to check in advance.

Whatever the app, read the answers about money and promises yourself: price, shipping, returns and warranty.

Where do shoppers see the answers?

Shoppers see the answers in one of four places: an FAQ section on the page, a Q&A box, a chat or a popup. The place decides who sees the answer.

  • An FAQ section or accordion on the page: AskWell, Smart Faqs Builder, Bulk FAQ Generator, PreviewFly. The answers stay on the page, for anyone who scrolls down to them and opens them.
  • A Q&A box: Answer It. Shoppers ask, and the answers stay on the page.
  • A chat: Askful and StoreFAQ, which also show FAQs on the page. In the chat, the shopper has to open it and type a question.
  • A popup: BOOX. The questions reach the shopper when they hesitate, with no scrolling or typing. But there are only three questions per product.

All the ways to answer shoppers, and when each one fits: five ways to answer shoppers.

Does FAQ schema still help on Google?

No, not for FAQ lines in Google's search results. On May 8, 2026 Google wrote that the FAQ rich result would no longer appear in Google Search starting May 7, 2026, and on June 15, 2026 it removed the documentation for it.

Four of the seven other listings we checked (AskWell, Bulk FAQ Generator, PreviewFly and StoreFAQ) still name FAQ schema as a feature. For Google's search results, it is no longer a reason to pick an app. Pick by what shoppers see. Source: Google Search Central, Latest Google Search documentation updates, May 8 and June 15, 2026.

How do you choose an app?

Start from the questions your shoppers ask, not from the feature list. Here it is, in order:

  1. Write down the five questions shoppers ask you most. If most are about shipping and returns, pick an app that also writes from your policies, or read those answers yourself.
  2. Decide who approves. If you want to read every answer before it goes live, check that the app's listing says so.
  3. Choose where the answer shows, by what your shoppers do: scroll down to the details, open a chat, or leave without asking.
  4. Check the language. Most listings name only English. Answer It names ten languages and StoreFAQ more than twenty, and only StoreFAQ names Hebrew. Askful's listing says shoppers can ask its chat in their own language. A listing's language line doesn't necessarily tell you which languages the AI writes answers in, so before you install, check that the answers come out in your shoppers' language.
  5. Check what you pay for. The apps count different things: generations, answers, FAQ page views or products. Count your products, and how many shoppers reach them.
  6. Try it on one product before you turn it on for the whole store, and read every answer.

And you may not need AI at all. With only a few products, you can write the FAQs yourself, in a regular FAQ app.

What to write in the questions themselves, with examples: product page FAQ.

Where BOOX fits

BOOX fits when shoppers stall on a product page over the same few questions, and don't ask them. It doesn't fit if you need an FAQ page, or many questions per product. We make BOOX, so here is exactly what it does and what it doesn't.

  • What it does: BOOX writes three questions and answers for each product with AI, from the product page and the store's policies, and you can edit any of them. They show in a popup when the shopper hesitates: after time on the page, after a scroll, or after an add to cart with no checkout.
  • Every answer ends with an add-to-cart button that takes the shopper to the store's own buy button. Your data shows, per product and per question, how many saw the popup, how many answered, and how many bought after answering.
  • It opens by itself at most once per visit, and never blocks scrolling. Free for up to 50 answers a month. Premium, unlimited: $10 a month, with a 14-day free trial.

When it doesn't: three questions per product are for the questions that come up most, not for every possible one. If you want an FAQ section that stays on the page for anyone who scrolls, or an FAQ page for the whole store, an FAQ app fits better: BOOX is a popup. If your shoppers ask many different questions and expect an answer to each one, a chat may fit better. And you can combine them: an FAQ on the page, and BOOX at the moment of hesitation.
